Art-Based Research...Heart felt Belief

“Inside Out: Outside in”
Art Based Research Project
by
Ralitza M. Vladimirov
(The following project is currently going on and it is in it's second phase with location Israel)

The Intention: of the Art based Research Project:
“Inside Out: Outside in: This self oriented art based study is going to explore several aspects with the used of 2 main art forms; art and dance-movement/performance:
- Mind-Body connection during the creative process
- The interaction of emotion and thought in relation to the creative process
- Body vs. Mind memory and their relationship
- The affect of geographic space to the creative process
(Even the aspects above could be explored separately, they are absolutely interconnected and are going to be explored in their dynamics and wholeness)

Design method:
The study will take place in three different parts of the world: Bulgaria, Israel and USA.
In each country the researcher/participant will create 1 art work without limitation to medium. The manner of creating the art will be spontaneous and open, without any preconceived concepts. For that purpose breathing and relaxation would be used as a starting point.
Each art work will be embodied twice (will re-enter the body) in a form of a performance, open to format and use of sound (this decision will be made on location). There will be 3 artworks created and 6 performances.
Each performance will be videotaped as well as the artwork will be photographed. A short video clip will be created to depict artwork vs. the performance.
After each part of the process, detailed notes will be taken and collected in an open written form.

Process momentum:
At this present moment 1 art work has been created with location Bulgaria and 2 performances followed it. The second work of art is in process at the second location Israel and within 2 weeks 2 performances will follow.

  1. So perhaps you're suggesting (if I understand this) that creativity can be the conduit between our local conscious (the self) and the non-local conscious (the selfless all). Appealing; to be able to draw from that ego void miasma of all things where we shed our individuality and bring it here for our individual...needs?

So it seems these two realities, our delineated self and the reality where we shed self, are separated by the need to be an individual vs the willingness to be part of the whole.

As Dean Radin puts it in his book "Entangled Minds (2006) "exceptionally, strong natural psi ability might seem to provide a survival advantage, but it might also carry a tendency towards psychological disassociation." I believe he is referring to the psyche that Jung describes as that which we possess.

So, can we use creativity as a direct conduit into that entangled conscious and draw from it while still maintaining a foothold in our "selves" (this reality) for use? Or, do we risk being drawn into that interconnectedness where we need to shed the way we cling to 'self". Perhaps being drawn into the quantum entanglement is the ultimate purpose.

Or, is this a conduit to our imaginations and memories, a halfway point where we can store what we experience while being entangled to use when we are full self actualized?

So then the secret is not only to be spontaneous at this end when accessing what we can, but also becoming adept at pulling from the non-local conscious into whatever constitutes that halfway reality of memory and imagination which is not quite self and yet not selfless

  2. Re: Technology And Self: http://www.well.com/~storytel/CollectiveUnconscious.htm

Though it is tongue-in-cheek humor, there is the reality of shared separateness. Recently, I have gone from writing in my private space, to writing in public and find that it has changed. I still get lost, but somehow sense something of those around me who likewise are lost. Some part of them gets drawn in and since I always write in the same space, I am surrounded by familiar people and periodically we break out of that silent unconsciousness to partake in some communion of each other the directed consciousness that is molded and shaped by speech.
